What is it?
The Questyle Audio CMA400i DAC with Headphone Amp exceeds all expectations! Includes all the state-of-the-art technology of the Questyle Golden Reference System. Full-balanced Amplification featuring four groups of pure Class A Current Mode amplification circuits. Supports 4pin balanced XLR output, 2.5mm balanced headphone jack and 6.35mm headphone jack.
The CMA400i is visually impressive and mysterious for its black and sandblasted chassis with amber light LED indicators. CMA400i can be placed straight with a specially designed stand, which is not only space saving but eye-catching for its statue-like structure under light. Lasered dots on the volume scale show the accuracy and specialty of operation. The “Function” switch on the front panel is to switch between “Headphone Amplifier” and “Pre-amplifier”. A LED indicator will show you whether the working “Function” is “AMP” or “Pre-amp” to focus on current function.
CMA400i can drive headphones in full-balanced mode as it features four groups of pure Class A Current Mode amplification circuits, and supports a 4PIN balanced XLR output, a 2.5mm balanced headphone jack and a 6.35mm standard headphone jack.
In addition, the new design of Gain Control switch at the bottom of the chassis benefits CMA400i with perfect driving power for different headphones. CMA400i is designed with Questyle patented True DSD technology and AKM AK4490 DAC chip. It processes DSD signals without any PCM converting and provides True DSD.
Built with four groups of pure Class A Current Mode amplifiers and all discrete circuit, which achieves the ultra-low distortion level of 0.0006% and ultra-wide bandwidth up to DC-600kHz (+0, -3dB). The impressive technical performance together with warm and powerful sound makes CMA400i comparable with a high-end headphone amplifier. High-end components ensures ultra-high fidelity sound. Power supply plays a vital role. Customized Noratel toroidal transformer. Over 10 groups independent power supply system.
The chassis is made of aircraft-grade Aluminum 6063 and manufactured by Foxconn, black and sandblasted chassis, which ensures the CMA400i remains at 55 ℃ even works in pure Class A status for a long time. Exquisite chassis edge, with elegant edge line, clock calibration volume knob, amber light feeling of LED indicators, all details telling Questyle strict requirement on manufacturing. Each panel passed fine machining by CNC device, tolerance under ±0.02mm, volume knob tolerance under ±0.005mm, processed with top level CNC standard.
How does it work?
CMA400i has a great capability for signal processing, supporting Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8 & 10, and Mac OS.
When connecting to a computer, it is only responsible for sending data. So everything related to sound quality will be guaranteed by CMA400i, no matter if it is a song, a film or a game.
The performance of a traditional Hi-Fi system can be much improved by CMA400i because of its completely separate DAC with optical and coaxial interfaces. Another distinctive feature of CMA400i is switching between “Headphone Amplifier” and “Pre-amplifier” by the “Function” switch on the front panel. In DAC mode, CMA400i supports RCA and XLR pre-amp outputs which can be selected by the ADJ/FIX switch on the rear panel.
The CMA400i follows the design of Questyle Audio CMA600i DAC-headphone amplifier. The headphone amplification of CMA400i achieves low distortion of 0.00064% and ultra wide bandwidth up to DC-600kHz(+0,-3dB), working under super-current and Class A state only, all of which allows CMA400i have excellent performance at headphone amplification among the DAC/amp models. CMA400i’s USB input supports True DSD. Different from the commonly used DoP mode, CMA400i processes source data directly from PC and its hardware will switch to the True DSD channel when the system processes DSD signals, strictly following the process of SACD playback.
CMA400i supports pre-amp unbalanced (RCA) and balanced (XLR) outputs. RCA pre-amp output level is up to 4Vrms, and XLR up to 8Vrms, which can meet the requirements of most power amplifiers for output level. Volume control works in analog mode only. It is user-friendly for users of high-end active speakers. CMA400i supports 4PIN balanced output. Four groups of pure Class A current mode amplification circuits drive headphones in full balanced mode, doubling the output voltage, quadrupling the output power against that of single-ended mode. It can easily drive headphones with high impedance and low sensitivity rating and is able to reveal the full performance of your headphones.
