The LCDi4 In-Ear Headphones with Premium Cable from Audeze offer a wide and accurate soundstage, smooth transient response, and a flat bass response from 900 Hz down to 5 Hz. The headphones are built using Audeze’s LCD-4 design, which they scaled down to create an end-game, in-ear, portable headphone for MP3 players, smartphones, iPads, and other small devices. Featuring a single driver, the LCDi4s deliver a natural sound with plenty of detail.

Every part of the LCDi4 is designed to bring the large Audeze sound to a smaller, lighter package. Great care and attention goes into the production of every one of the LCDi4 headphones, from utilizing quality, comfortable materials that minimize reflections, to the handcrafted precision of each unit. How does it work?

So how do planar magnetic headphones usually work? A large yet thin diaphragm is suspended within a magnetic field. It is covered with a flexible circuit. When the circuit receives an audio signal, the diaphragm moves back and forth to create sound. It starts and stops rapidly for clean and accurate sound across a wide frequency range. The LCDi4 headphones utilize an ultra-thin diaphragm with Fluxor magnets and Uniforce voice coil technology. Their distortion (THD) is less than 0.1% overall, even at high volumes. These headphones feature a magnesium top housing and a premium, braided cable made of silver-plated OCC copper with Kevlar threads for additional strength.

A special, super-powerful Fluxor magnet array. Audeze laid out the magnets in an asymmetrical pattern, so that they attract to each other at an angle. This results in a magnetic field that is nearly double the power of a traditional one, so those thin LCDi4 drivers can move and perform extra-efficiently. The braided, silver-plated cable will indeed connect to the traditional 3.5mm headphone jack found on many smartphones. But you’ll get the best results using a separate headphone amp/DAC or portable high-res music player.

Every single LCDi4 driver is hand-assembled at their Southern California headquarters — and goes through a battery of tests along the way. It’s a laborious process that involves great attention to detail, and ends with a series of measurements inside a sound-proof chamber. Audeze won’t let a pair of LCDi4 headphones leave the building without a proper match between the left and right driver.
